Rain on Friday and again on Saturday morning meant that the only games which could go ahead were those where the playing surface had been protected from the elements by covers.

In hindsight, rain getting under the covers may not have been a bad thing!

The 1st XI travelled to Berkhamsted, where the toss proved crucial. We lost it and, after a delayed start, found ourselves batting first in difficult conditions against a very good side, which has become accustomed to winning this year. Jack Cobb and Niyam Shah were on the receiving end of particularly good deliveries, but, unfortunately, other batsmen contributed to their own downfall as we collapsed from 48 for 2 to 58 for 7 and our final total of 85 was never one to test our hosts. After the interval the sun came out and conditions eased. Harry Cobb

(8 overs for 14 runs) bowled tidily from one end, but we leaked runs form the other end as Berkhamsted made short work of reaching their target with half their overs to spare.

Back at Habs, the 2nd XI recovered from 63 for 5 to post a competitive total of 151 for 7 after 30 overs, thanks to the efforts of captain Freddy Nash (25), Viresh Kanakaratnam (35) and Alex Curtis (16*). In reply, Berkhamsted lost an early wicket to the hostile Mughi Muralitharan, but eventually reached their target with just one over to spare to inflict a first defeat of the season on Habs at this level.
